Global Icon Files Trademark for Beloved Food Tradition

Los Angeles, California - August 14, 2019

Today, global icon and longtime Taco Tuesday enthusiast LeBron James shares his support for Taco Bell's effort to cancel the registered trademark which has threatened companies large and small that use the phrase since 1989.

LeBron James had filed a request to trademark the phrase "Taco Tuesday" in August, a move that prompted many to question whether anyone should trademark such a widely used phrase. LeBron James' weekly taco night celebrations with family led to his attempted trademarking of "Taco Tuesday" in 2022, which was denied by the USPTO on the basis that "Taco Tuesday" is a generic term.

LeBron James celebrated the Lakers' win over the Grizzlies by getting Staples Center to chant "Taco Tuesday."

LeBron James loves Taco Tuesday. But he's not a fan of that tiny encircled R symbolizing the slogan's registered trademark. So James is ready to battle his first offseason opponent.

On August 14, 2019, at 2:07 pm ET, LeBron James made it an offseason tradition to celebrate Taco Tuesday, and this week he added some special guests into the mix.

A company owned by LeBron James, LBJ Trademarks LLC, has filed a trademark for "TACO TUESDAY." The filing indicates that LeBron intends to continue offering his popular "TACO TUESDAY" posts.
